VA - The Heart of Southern Soul - From Nashville to Memphis & Muscle Shoals

Southern soul came to prominence in the 1960s when gospel-raised black southern singers were paired with white country-influenced musicians employed at southern recording studios in Muscle Shoals, Memphis and Nashville. the country music influence on those white musicians was the vital difference between Southern Soul and other gospel based soul recorded elsewhere. Session men such as guitarist Jimmy Johnson at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals and the brilliant Reggie Young at American Sound Studios in Memphis were well aware of black music from their earliest days.
