Tooth - Sirens From Here To Titan

Released in April of 2001, yet still sounding as timeless as ever, Sirens… is a gorgeous, multi textured, funky and seductive work, from Sydney’s psychedelic maestros Tooth. Sirens… follows on the tradition of their previous release No Strings with journeys into lavish landscapes on the scale of a John Houston epic. As the name suggests there is an oceanic/outer-space theme that ties Sirens… together.

Starting with Tel Aviv ’74 we are met by the sound of crashing waves and the pulse of a sweaty nightclub, full of open shirted, gold chained and cigar smoking scoundrels, the earthy start to a truly cosmic voyage. As we go, we are lured by many sirens, led to dive into lunar oceans, captured by intergalactic pirates and finally freed to drift endlessly through the sparkling oceans of forever (or something like that).

One of the shining moments on Sirens… is Operation Softfrog, a work that makes you sway and be carried by dreams, then to be brought back to earth by a call of “disillusion”, then swept into an intoxicating rhythm, which takes you to the end and into the next head/film soundtrack. The album is rich in texture, full of comic and mysterious twists and turns, excellent grooves and tasty playing care of John Maddox on bass, Peter & Tim Hollo (Fourplay) on cello & viola and Purdy on guitar.

If anyone has the debut album from Tooth, I'd be very grateful for an u/l..cheers. This is superb by the way, seriously dreamy dub. It's seen some seriously heavy play round my place :-)
