Really nice work from The Four Tops -- proof that they were still going quite quite strong after Motown! The album's got a hip sound that shows the group moving through a wider range of emotions than we ever remember -- crafting rich deep harmonies that still stand apart from the big wave of sweet soul quartets of the early 70s, and which sparkle with all the emotion that Levi Stubbs' voice had to offer. Includes their great theme to Shaft In Africa, the track "Are You Man Enough" -- plus loads of other great ones like "I Just Can't Get You Out Of My Mind", "It Won't Be The First Time", "Sweet Understanding Love", "Too Little, Too Late", "Peace Of Mind", and "Main Street People".

Dude, this record is incredible. I heard "Are You Man Enough" on WXPN's Funky Fridays (radio station in Philly) and was immediately addicted. Thanks for posting great music!
This is what I love about you Blog guys you know your music. You won't find this album on iTunes yet its one of the finest pieces of work the Tops ever did. I used to listen to this every night after coming in from the disco in '77 for a soulful wind-down with the Tops released from the Motown machine they were able to be real soul men in the studio. A classic. THANK YOU
Eddie Gordon
Thank you so much! How sweet it is of you to share such a GEM! This is truly music at its finest! And there is non better than the Four Tops. I love their Motown work and as great and amazing as it is, it pales in comparison to their work after leaving the label. I'm ashamed that I didn't even realize how amazing these men were. I can admit my mistakes though. I'm a die hard classic Temptations fan [Paul, Eddie, David, Melvin, Otis and early work with Dennis] but the Four Tops [Obie, Duke, Lawrence and Levi] are right up there for me. And the more I hear of their later work, I may have two favorites now.
Thank you so much.
Be well.
